Fairfax Education Assn. with HSI Train  Leaders for Fairfax Co., VA Public Schools

Fairfax County, one of the nation's largest school systems, is benefiting from the leadership of its NEA affiliated education association (FEA) and the support of HSI, to bring MegaSkills training to its educators and parents countywide.

Leading the effort for FEA is Dr. Marlene Reagin, Director of Instruction and Professional Development. The executive director of FEA is Ken Reinshuttle.

Dr. Reagin has provided MegaSkills® trainings with emphasis on the county's Project Excel Schools serving low income, multicultural populations along the Route I corridor.

MegaSkills teacher-leaders identified as using the program in a strongly integrated way for their classwork are:

    • Jennifer Ashburn, Franconia Elementary School
    • Carol Burroughs, Woodley Hills ES
    • Mary Durgala, Pine Spring ES
    • Rachel Gelman, Pine Spring ES
    • Alma Haygood, Mt. VErnon Woods ES
    • Camille Hodges, Liberty Middle School
    • Virginia Kinsbury, Fort Hunt ES
    • Brenda LeBlanc, Fort Belvoir ES
    • Stephanie Stober, Bull Run ES

The program is expanding widely in FCPS. The impact is being noted by administrators with lowered discipline incidents and higher student achievement.

Dr. Dorothy Rich, founder and president of the nonprofit Home and School Institute, is the developer of the MegaSkills Programs. For more information: www.megaskillshsi.org
