The major focus
of HSI and its MegaSkills Education Center is to build achievement in
school and beyond. HSI works with school districts, federal, state, and
local government agencies, corporations, and community organizations.
Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, HSI is supported
by foundations, government grants and individual contributions.
With programs
beginning in 1964, HSI has developed systematic training and materials
for total community educational involvement. The needs of all students
have been fundamental concerns of the Institute since its inception.
To extend the
impact of HSI programs for the millennium, the Institute has created
the MegaSkills Education Center, directed by Harriett Stonehill.
Support for developing and extending the MegaSkills Programs comes from
school districts across the nation and foundations, including The
MacArthur Foundation, The Sears-Roebuck Foundation, IBM, Kraft Foods,
and the Mott Foundation.
